Soon to be a Platypus

At this point, I’d like to apologize for my extended absence from Blogging. I was doing pretty good at the start, but soon was distracted by life! I’ve been having a lot of fun getting accustomed to my life and rarely take pauses to sit down and document it!

I’ve now been in Seoul a total of 114 days or 16 weeks or 4 months. Depending upon how you look at it it either hasn’t been that long or it has been ages. If I look at it as a fraction of my time spent on this Earth, it is miniscule. If I look at it as a portion of my contract in Korea it is a decent amount of time, but nothing spectacular. If I look at how long I’ve been away from my family and friends-it seems like centuries…….

I feel at this point I could call myself “adjusted”. I’ve got a rhythm and a pattern down. My days, weeks, and months seem to go a certain way. I have regular routes to work, I’m know which subway lines will take me where, and I can name at least a few foods that I’d be comfortable eating. I’ve still got a lot to discover, but the “new car” smell has faded just a bit. Living and working is still living and working no matter where you are.

I have grown bored with winter!! I’m really craving sunlight and warmth! I think I’ll be much more adventurous when it is comfortable outside!

I’ve already become attached to the children that I work with. I truly look forward to seeing “my kids” everyday and hearing what they have to say or reading what they have written. For example, on a test about foods; one student listed “cock” and an unhealthy food. It was later determined to be “coke”. I plan on writing a blog filled with, “The Things Korean Kids Say”.

I recently was asked to take a new position at S.E.A. As a result, beginning March 2nd I’ll be teaching the “Platypus Class”. In my new position I’ll be working at a different campus and I’ll have much different hours. At second campus I’ll be working 9-6:30 with “kindie” kids. These kids attend S.E.A. as a pre-kindergarten/kindergarten. They speak very little English, but are quick learners.

I’m excited for the new challenge! As a Kindie teacher, I’ll be teaching English as well as other subjects. I’ll also be teaching arts and crafts, Orda, drama, science, etc. I think the days will fly by and the months will be more interesting with themes, spelling bees contests, and field trips!

I plan to update much more often in the future. I’ve made it a goal to update bi-weekly. I already have a few ideas churning of things I want to write about. As always, feel free to write or ask more specific questions!!
